What is it?

Moles can differ in color from your natural skin shade to hues such as pink, brown and black. They often emerge during the teenage years and can be either flat or protruding on the skin's surface. It's normal for 10 to 40 moles to surface on your skin by adulthood. Some develop slowly, and others might lighten or vanish over time. While the majority of moles are benign, if you have any areas of concern schedule an appointment at Beavercreek Dermatology for a comprehensive examination. If required, we might suggest mole removal.

Mole removal involves of one of our experienced dermatologists shaving or excising the mole to extract it from your skin. Some individuals may desire mole removal for aesthetic purposes, such as facial moles. Our medical practice can assist with this as well.

What to expect

These procedures are swift and outpatient, allowing you to drive yourself home after the appointment and continue with your regular daily routine. When considering mole removal, it's crucial to steer clear of DIY remedies, as they could potentially be harmful. Always opt to consult with a board-certified dermatologist.

Initially, the area that needs to be treated will be cleaned and then numbed with a topical anesthetic or an injection. There are two mole-removal methods: surgical excision (where a scalpel is used to detach the mole from your skin) and shave excision (where a single or double-bladed razor is used to shave the growth off the skin).

Our board-certified dermatologists will discuss with you which method is most suitable. After the mole has been removed, the treated area will be appropriately addressed and covered. You'll receive clear home care instructions for the wound, which usually involves keeping it clean and protected. Recovery from the mole removal process may require up to three weeks. If you'd like to consult with one of our board-certified dermatologists in Beavercreek, Ohio, please give us a call, and we'll arrange an appointment.dxcf
