What is it?

Skin reactions such as discoloration, textural changes or sensations of irritation or swelling can be indicative of rashes. Rashes can be triggered by a variety of psychological elements like depression, anxiety, fear or traumatic events, and environmental influences including air pollution, carcinogens in food, pesticides, exposure to lead and even extended durations of computer screen use. Rashes could also develop in association with numerous conditions such as chickenpox, contact dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, ringworm and shingles. In some instances, patients have reported rashes related to coronavirus infection.

Take comfort in the fact that you're not alone! Rashes are a common occurrence and can affect just about anyone at any time, so there's no need for undue concern. Our board-certified team at Beavercreek Dermatology is here to assist you.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association suggests that if you experience the following, it's recommended to seek medical attention from a board-certified dermatologist:

  • A rash that covers the majority of your body.
  • A rash that evolves into blisters, open sores or raw skin.
  • A rash accompanied by fever or illness.
  • A rapidly spreading rash.
  • A rash that is painful.
  • A rash that affects the eyes, lips, mouth or genital area.

How is it treated?

The approach to treatment varies based on the type or origin of the rash. Our dermatology clinic can provide care through medicated ointments, anti-itch lotions such as hydrocortisone, moisturizing creams, anti-fungal topical creams, oral medications, antihistamines and light therapy. Some rashes may cause more discomfort than harm, but others could indicate a more severe condition. If your rash requires care, schedule an appointment today with our experienced team serving Beavercreek, Ohio, and it's surrounding communities.
