Common warts, flat warts and plantar warts are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear on the hands, face, feet or genitals.
What is it?
Warts are benign coarse lumps that appear on the skin when the body is infiltrated by HPV through a skin tear or break. These elevated, flesh-colored swellings can materialize anywhere on the body, often resembling a blister. Although they're harmless, many of our patients at Beavercreek Dermatology opt for their removal as they can be transmitted through touch and, quite simply, they wish to be free of these unwanted skin growths.
Typically, common warts are found on the hands, fingers, surrounding the nails or on the back of the hands. Plantar warts, on the other hand, emerge on the soles of the feet and can become discomforting without appropriate treatment administered by our medical practice. Flat warts can show up anywhere on the body, while filiform warts resemble threads and are often seen on the face.
How is it treated?
While there's no permanent solution for the virus causing warts, our dermatology clinic is well-equipped to manage warts promptly to halt their growth and prevent them from spreading.
