What is it?

Skin infections can vary from minor to extreme, depending on the nature and origin of the infection. Often, these infections are caused when bacteria infiltrate your body via a scrape or wound on your skin. This could also occur due to dampness, rubbing, or inadequate blood flow to a specific part of your body. The encouraging news is that the majority of skin infections are highly manageable. Individuals with compromised immune systems are more susceptible to skin infections, which can be attributed to health issues, medication side effects, being of an older or very young age or skin creases resulting from obesity. There are a wide array of skin infections such as bacterial (impetigo, boils), viral (shingles, warts), fungal (athlete's foot, ringworm) and parasitic (lice, bedbugs), with symptoms differing based on the infection type. Usual symptoms include eruptions, inflammation, itching and discomfort.

How is it treated?

For an accurate diagnosis of a skin infection, schedule an appointment with a one of our board-certified medical providers serving Beavercreek, Ohio. Our team of specialists will carry out a thorough physical assessment, ask about your symptoms and, if necessary, perform a skin culture to determine the exact nature of the infection. If the infection does not improve on its own, penetrates deeper into the skin or spreads throughout the body, it is important to schedule a consultation with one of our for an evaluation of its severity.

While most of these infections typically resolve on their own, we are prepared to prescribe antibiotics, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic medications in severe cases.
